Call for contributions

  • Opening day
  • Submission deadline

We are looking for physical and online contributions of any format to Brightcon 2025: Short or long presentations with or without coding along (notebooks), demonstration, workshops, roundtable discussion, poster, or any other format you can think of.

The theme is “industrial ecology open data”, and this years’ Brightcon targets not only software engineers, but also people from academia and industry who have applied open tools and data in their projects and want to make this known or start discussions.
Contributions should showcase novel developments, highlight successful or unsuccessful implementations, or foster discussions between the community of the open sustainability ecosystem around Brightway or other open LCA tools and users or developers of open data.

Have you developed a python package for (environmental) sustainability? Are you working in industry and do you bring sustainability and the open sharing mindset into real life – but you face challenges with regards to interoperability of tools/data or confidentiality? Do you face open data aspects in your daily work? How do you share open data? These are just example questions – you are the expert in your field for what is present or what is needed.

Provide the audience with interesting and stimulating insights and reflections, and try to inform, inspire or invite to discussions.

Please submit your idea in an abstract, indicating:

-        Which type of contribution you want to provide (choice from dropdown or own format)

-        How much allocated time you wish for your contribution

-        Short proposal (ca.half A4 page) of your contribution: Topic, 1-2 highlights/discussion points, concise description

-        What you need (beamer and notebook repository are provided for everybody), such as flipchart, online whiteboard etc.

Submission language is English. Contributions can be held remote or in place. Contribution submission deadline is the 04.08.2025. Submissions will be evaluated by the Brightcon Scientific Committee with regards to their potential to inspire the community, facilitate exchange of ideas, the openness of the showcased aspect, and the quality of the abstract. We also specifically encourage online participants and participants from geographies other than Europe to submit a contribution.

Review notifications will be sent out the latest by end of August.
