Courses for beginners and advanced users (sold out)

Courses will include a full day beginners track and a full day advanced track. Both are held in parallel on Tuesday from ca. 9 am to ca. 6 pm with breaks. Registration for a course is only possible together with registration for the conference. During registration you can opt for course participation. Note that places are limited! First come first serve.

The cost for one day of course + three days of conference (physical) amount to EUR 375.-. This includes catering for breaks and lunch and one conference dinner.

Courses will be held physically at Grenoble only, no online edition this year.

The beginners track includes the following topics:

  • Introduction to open source packages around Brightway
  • How to use Brightway: We will go through a jupyter notebook at the example of an LCA case study
  • Activity Browser is there to help you! Introduction and use examples
  • Example for the use of a related package: prospective LCA with premise

This course is taught by Karin Treyer, spearheading documentation of Brightway and trying to make it accessible for people who don't come from the coding world; Marc Van der Meide, one of the key persons developing Activity Browser; Romain Sacchi, the developer of premise and many other useful packages.

Previous coding experience is not a requirement for course attendance, but basic knowledge in python coding is helpful to profit most from the course. We will give general guidance and work in Activity Browser, but we will use code. We recommend you make yourself familiar with terms like "conda / anaconda", "jupyter notebook", "python language", "packages/libraries" so that you can more focus on course content rather than trying to understand such words.

The intermediate/advanced track is intended for users already experienced with Brightway and its ecosystem of related packages. The following tools will be introduced and taught by the respective lecturers:

  • Timex – Arthur Jakobs & Timo Diepers

  • Vocabularies – Chris Mutel

  • LCA Algebraic – Raphael Jolivet

  • Flodym – Jakob Dürrwachter

Participants will benefit most if they have already applied Brightway and related packages in their own coding notebooks.
