Départ de Sentier (abbreviated DdS) is a Swiss non-profit association dedicated to advancing quantitative sustainability assessment through open-source innovation in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). It aims to bridge the gap between scientific theory and practical application by supporting the development of open-source tools and open data.
DdS also focuses on building an open infrastructure for Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) modeling and data sharing (https://github.com/sentier-dev), dedicated to making LCI data findable, traceable, maintainable, and interoperable.
Beyond its technical contributions, DdS facilitates interchange on open science, promotes public engagement and education in sustainability assessment and citizen science. Through the annual Brightcon conference, specialized training programs on open-source sustainability assessment tools, and applied research projects, DdS fosters a diverse global community committed to open, transparent, and data-driven sustainability assessment.
Three members of DdS are part of the organisation team for Brightcon 2026:
- Xiaojin Zhang
- Mélanie Douziech
- Karin Treyer
